Section 162: Judicial authority
Constitution of Zimbabwe
Judicial authority derives from the people of Zimbabwe and is vested in the courts, which comprise—
(a) the Constitutional Court;
(b) the Supreme Court;
(c) the High Court;
(d) the Labour Court;
(e) the Administrative Court;
(f) the magistrates courts;
(g) the customary law courts; and
(h) other courts established by or under an Act of Parliament.
This section establishes the principle that judicial power in Zimbabwe ultimately comes from its citizens and is exercised through a hierarchical court system. The Constitutional Court sits at the apex of this hierarchy, with specialized courts like the Labour and Administrative Courts addressing specific legal domains. This structure reflects a balance between constitutional supremacy, specialized judicial expertise, and recognition of customary law within Zimbabwe's legal framework.
